Band of the week: 2/13/05

Besides being the week of my loving father's birthday, this was also the week I became totally obsessed with the band Coheed and Cambria. For those who are artistically bankrupt and haven't experienced new music, this might be a good place to start.

Listening to Co&Ca is like eating a stick of crisco, it may not be good for you, but it sure tastes like shit. Ok, bad analogy. Coheed and Cambria are a semi-punk/emo/whatever-core band that formed a few years back from the remains of a band call Shabutie. The lead singer Claudio Sanchez, sings in like seven different octaves, usually at the same time. How does this sound you ask? Fucking brilliant, although you may not know it's a man when you first hear their music. As for the music itself, Coheed and Cambria are a band unto themselves. Their first album, The Second Stage Turbine Blade, introduced the world to a brand new concept album. Namely, a super-futuro-scifi tale involving the two lead characters, a man and wife named Coheed and Cambria. Starting to get the picture? Well, it doesn't get much clearer on their second album, In Keeping The Secrets Of Silent Earth:3, which continues the tale of Co and Ca and their children. On the surface, Co&Ca is worth a listen just for their music, but beneath is a wonderfully realized set of concept albums (There will be four, but they tell the story out of order) just waiting to be dissected and enjoyed. That's why Coheed and Cambria is the

Band Of The Week!
